Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap for January 14, 2025

The Kern County Board of Supervisors met today as scheduled for Tuesday’s January 14, 2025, Board Meeting. Supervisor Phillip Peters (District 1), Supervisor Chris Parlier (District 2), Supervisor Jeff Flores (District 3), Supervisor David Couch (District 4), and Chairwoman Leticia Perez (District 5) were in attendance. Meeting Highlights: 

  • Item No. 5 AM session:
  • The Kern County Fire Chief provided an update on how KCFD is supporting Los Angeles through combating the region’s tragic wildfires.

  • Item No. 7 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with Good Samaritan Hospital, LP, and Kern Health Systems for a continuum of care pilot programs to provide substance use disorder medical detoxification treatment services and aftercare for high-risk individuals through March 2026, as part of Kern County’s fentanyl misuse program.

  • Item No. 10 PM session:
  • The Board approved a resolution appointing Standby Officers for the Board of Supervisors members to provide for continuance of government during a state of war emergency, state of emergency, or a local emergency.
  • Item No. 11 PM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with the Kern Medical Center Foundation to support the Valley Fever patient database and research anti-fungal medication for treatment, improved diagnostics, and work towards a vaccine.
  • Item No. 12 PM session:
  • The Board approved the donation of toiletries and winter jackets to The Open Door Network for families and children living at the shelter.
  • Item No. 16 PM session:
  • The Board approved a low, responsive, and responsible bid to approve a contract with Vortex Construction for Beale Library upgrades including restroom and parking lot upgrades, new flooring, and a new security and access system.
  • Item No. 19 PM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with the Kern High School District Regional Occupational Center for the community classroom training program to support local students in opportunities to develop careers in information technology through November of 2027.

The next Regular Board Meetings are scheduled for January 28, 2025, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
